Question: Tell me something that you love about being an X-ray tech? Your favorite part of the job. Favorite part of your day.
Jennifer:
Answer: Every time when you go in. I love being able to see in people’s bodies. It’s crazy. And people are so intrigued. Like, can I take a look at my x ray? And like, sometimes, I mean, every now and then I’m like, OK, but then people try to be like, well, what’s that? Why does that look like that? I’m like, oh, we’re not going to that any less than right now. I didn’t mean to freak you out. Now that what it looks like. And now you think everything’s wrong because you don’t know what it’s supposed to look like, not to sound like morbid or anything, but sometimes when you see, like, a crazy fracture, you’re like, Oh my god, jeez, you know? And like, you could just see that in the picture and it’s just crazy. Or if I x say like a little kid, I love to be like, you want to come over, you want to see the picture? Do you see your bones look like. I just think it’s so cool.
Farrel:
Answer: The best part of being a mammographer is if you do have to find something. A breast cancer in a patient, finding it early and having them beat something that could basically end in a really bad way. So that’s the best part. And the second best part for me is just a big nerd and I really like educating people about what I do, even if they are big nerds also will get into the physics of stuff too. I’m sort of a talker when we have a mammogram and I like taking someone that’s the very first one they’ve ever had. And they’ve heard all sorts of awful stories about how terrible it is and how you get smushed really flat. And it’s just awful. And I love it when they leave and they’re like, that was way better than I thought it was going to be. Thank you for making it like somewhat enjoyable. That was I don’t know. That’s the best part. It’s education. And then knowing that you’re providing a service that people most of them dread. I just loved being able to meet all different types of people.
Jenna:
Answer: I don’t think I could ever do just a desk job where, you know, you’re behind. I mean, yes, we’re essentially we are behind a computer all day because we have many computers that we’re behind. But I don’t think I could do just a desk job where I don’t get to interact with all the different people that you meet from all different cultures, all different backgrounds. It’s just really interesting. And these people, they don’t feel the best when they come to see you. Nobody wants to be in the hospital or a doctor’s office, so you have the opportunity to be compassionate. So you really have to be compassionate to enter a field, any type of health care field. So I love that I’m able to give back to our community. And help these people who are our neighbors feel better.
