Question: What is X Ray Tech School actually like, and what is the best part?
Jennifer:
Answer: I really like my clinicals. I loved going to clinical it stands because like you kind of feel like sometimes you’re working and you’re not getting paid, but I mean, you’re going to school. They might just be watching you. You have to have in the beginning direct supervision and then they can indirectly supervise you. You have to have a competency done in your lab, work with your actual before you can try to perform a study on your own indirectly in a hospital setting or in an outpatient setting. But I really enjoyed going to the clinicals because it was hands on at that point.
You’re taking what you’re learning in class, you know, positioning wise, like say like you’ve just learned how to do a chest X-ray in school that week. Well, now I actually get to go in and I get to do it on a patient. You know, I actually get to position the patient, set it all up, go behind the wall. You know, like I said, look at your KVP, your eye mass, which are your exposure indicators and actually take the picture and actually see it come up.
Farrel:
Answer: I think my favorite class was the physics class. I just loved learning about radiation and how it works and, you know, X-ray photons. And it’s just fascinating. That was my most favorite. And we have some great professors in my Colorado Mesa University in Grand junction, Colorado. They’re fantastic educators. And one of my most favorite professors. She’s Ukrainian and her name is Olga. And I can actually read notes and I read them in my head and her voice. It was so great. But she is one of the smartest ladies I know. Just amazing.
Jenna:
Answer: Probably the pathology. I thought that was really interesting, learning about all of the different disease processes in the body, how that changes the anatomy in our professors. They really made it fun and easy to learn that course. So we had a lot of case studies. You almost feel like a detective because you have to correlate the lab values with specific pathologies and all of the anatomy and other things that are effective. So it’s kind of like you’re putting pieces of a puzzle together to find what the end result is. And I really liked that part.
